I first became aware of Lisbon while we were cruising the Mediterranean back in 2010. Our Waiter was from Lisbon and when he found out we were from San Francisco, he told us that the 2 cities had a lot in common and urged us to make a visit. He didn't tell us much more than that.
A few years later I had a chance to see the city up close and personal on an episode of No Reservations.
I sort of put it in the back of my mind and never really bothered to look it up again until now.
Boy, the similarities are eery down to the freakin fog, even!
I did a quick check for airline prices as well. Looks like the cheapest round trip fares out of San Jose, Costa Rica are on United for about $1,400 (compared to $1,800 from San Francisco) and the shortest flight time 13 hrs.
Here are the 2-City Comparisons
1. Between a Bay and and Ocean
2. Built upon 7 hills
3. Historic Cable Cars and Street Cars
4. A Bright Orange Suspension Bridge
5. A History of Severe Earthquakes
Lisbon, Portugal
7. World Class Wine
8. Coffee Shop Culture
9. West Coast Street Art
Pretty cool huh? Since the goal of our retirement and move out of the country is to travel more, I have put Lisbon on my short list and I will do some further research and of course post again.
