Blogger insurance now available

I met with a group of bloggers recently on the topic of the legal ramifications of blogging.  This happens to be my area of expertise, as I consult with clients daily in regards to personal liability coverage, which by the way,  does not extend to blogs.

Did you know that what you post online can get you sued?
Or that there is now libel insurance available for bloggers?

The answer to both of these questions is "yes"

Many, many costly lawsuits are now being brought against bloggers for anything from defamation to copyright infringement.  We live in a litigious society and people will sue for just about anything,

I happen to write 5 blogs, so I try to be very careful about the content on my blogs, however I discovered (actually a friend discovered them and alerted me) my personal photos from my trip to Africa posted on a popular website about Africa. 

And, this photo taken of our little school in a remote village in Guinea Bissau, West Africa was used on an educational website discussing the need for better schools in Africa!  What, did they think I wouldn't recognize it?  Of course no credit was given to the source of the information.  I even contacted the educational organization and offered to give them the real story about the school (which we replaced with a new school) but never heard back.

So,  if you're a blogger I thought I would bring this your attention.  We should all be respectful of our fellow bloggers and their posts.  Be very careful what you post and where you get the information.
